

The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types on their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds. By the end of the decade, Linkin Park was among the most successful and popular rock acts.

The band explored experimental sounds on their third album, Minutes to Midnight (2007).

Their second album, Meteora (2003), continued the band's success. Released during the peak of the nu metal scene, the album's singles' heavy airplay on MTV led the singles " One Step Closer", " Crawling" and " In the End" all to chart highly on the Mainstream Rock chart the latter crossed over to the pop chart. Categorized as alternative rock, Linkin Park's earlier music spanned a fusion of heavy metal and hip hop, while their later music features more electronica and pop elements.įormed in 1996, Linkin Park rose to international fame with their debut studio album, Hybrid Theory (2000), which became certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Mike and I are two different people, so we can’t sing about the same things, but we both know about frustration and anger and loneliness and love and happiness, and we can relate on that level. We don’t talk about situations, we talk about the emotions behind the situations. He also said in another interview with MTV: I think Meteora was an extension of that. We were in the lab, and we happened to stumble across something everybody liked and it worked. It was more like, “This riff is sick!” Then, we’d just scream over it, and the next song would be a mid-tempo ballad and you’d sing the way that song needed to be sang. We also didn’t care whether or not the songs fit together stylistically as a whole or a collection of songs. We didn’t really care about what anybody else was doing. We knew what we wanted, and we knew how to execute to a certain degree. It features five singles, namely “ Somewhere I Belong,” “ Faint,” “ Breaking the Habit,” “ From the Inside,” and the chart-breaking single “ Numb.” Having sold over 27 million copies worldwide and being seven times platinum-certified by the RIAA, Meteora is just Linkin Park’s second studio album.
